Pitching lifts baseball past Greensboro

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's baseball team defeated Greensboro College, 4-1, at home on Tuesday afternoon as the Hornets won their sixth straight game and remain a perfect 10-0 on Fox Field.

The Hornets (16-8) got out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after a double-play ball allowed Kinston Carson to score from third after he led off the inning with a single.

In the bottom of the fifth, Lynchburg tacked on three more as Parker Shaffer reached on a fielder's choice and drove in PJ Alvanos in the process. One batter later, junior Garrett Jackson doubled to right center to drive home Shaffer and Holden Fiedler to put the Hornets up 4-0 after five.

The Pride (8-8) scored a lone run in the seventh after a Lynchburg error, but that was all Greensboro could scratch across on the afternoon as Lynchburg pitching shut down the Pride offense.

Hornets' starter Michael Reiskind scattered just one hit and punched out two over five strong innings of work to earn his second win of the year. Juniors Kendrick Creasey and Tommy Preston and sophomore Colby Hutnan combined for three innings of relief as the trio struck out five and allowed one unearned run on two hits. Senior Santiago Meneses pitched the ninth, allowed one hit, and struck out two to earn his first save of the season.

Lynchburg baseball will be back on the diamond on Wednesday, April 7 as the Hornets travel to Virginia Wesleyan to take on the Marlins in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match up. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
