Box Score Harrisonburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's field hockey team defeated Eastern Mennonite University, 3-0, on the road Friday night as Lynchburg completed a perfect regular season at 7-0.
The Hornets took the lead in the third minute of the contest as junior Brittany Claybaugh found senior Emily Dudley who promptly took a shot and connected with the back of the Royals' cage to put Lynchburg up 1-0. Later in the first, after a Lynchburg penalty corner led to a scrum in front of the EMU cage, freshman Brooke Hyland snuck a shot past the Royals' goalkeeper and put Lynchburg up, 2-0.
At the end of the third period, senior Alexis Brown also found the back of the EMU cage for an unassisted goal giving the Hornets a 3-0 advantage and sealing Lynchburg's seventh win in a row.
Lynchburg's offense amassed 44 shots on the night with 22 being on frame. The Hornets' defense held the Royals (4-4, 3-4) to just two shots as their only one on goal was saved by Lynchburg's keeper, Laurel Nicks.
Lynchburg field hockey will be back in action on Tuesday, April 13 as the Hornets will play in the first round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament. Time and location is to be determined at this time.
