Box Score Salem, Va. -- The 19th-ranked University of Lynchburg field hockey team extended its Old Dominion Athletic Conference winning streak to 30 games Wednesday evening with a 3-1 road victory at Roanoke College.
Three different Hornets -- Emily Dudley, Emily Yanes, and Aaryn Boatwright -- scored goals for the victors.
Dudley got the scoring started for Lynchburg after a penalty corner, finishing a Kessa Romero feed for a second-quarter lead that the Hornets carried into halftime.
Lynchburg doubled its lead midway through the third quarter, when Emma Strouse found Yanes for the senior's first goal of the 2021 season, and the visitors led 2-0 headed into the fourth.
Roanoke's Emilee Wooten made things interesting early in the fourth, breaking up the shutout thanks to an assist by Claudia Roncone, but the Hornets gave themselves some breathing room later in the final quarter; Boatwright found the back of the cage with an assist from Jackie Lerro in the 54th minute, opening up a 3-1 Lynchburg lead that the Hornets would ride to victory.
Lynchburg (4-3, 1-0 ODAC) held an 11-4 shots advantage in the game and earned eight penalty corners to the Maroons' two.
The victory was the Hornets' 24th consecutive win over Roanoke, a streak dating back to 2003, and marked Lynchburg's 10th straight victory over RC in Salem.
