Box Score Winchester, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team got a double-double out of Erin Green, but it wasn't enough to push the Hornets past Shenandoah as the hosts earned a 65-57 win over Lynchburg Monday night.
Green totaled 19 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks to lead the way for Lynchburg, while Lizzie Davis chipped in 15 points and five assists.
Lynchburg jumped out to an early lead and carried an 18-8 advantage into the break between the first and second periods, leading by as many as 12 in the early going. Meredith Vetter had six points and three rebounds for the Hornets in the first 10 minutes.
Green went a perfect 3-for-3 from the field in the second, including a 3-pointer, tallying eight of her 19 in the second period to help Lynchburg into the halftime break with a 31-23 lead.
SU's comeback began in the third, when the hosts cut the Lynchburg lead down to 37-34. A Kate Kolb basket, a pair of Sarah Johnson free throws, and Green's second 3 of the game helped the Hornets nurse the lead back to 44-37 headed into the fourth, but Shenandoah's comeback attempt proved relentless.
Sarah Sondrol's 3 with 1:47 remaining gave the host Hornets their first lead of the game, 56-55, and SU outscored Lynchburg 12-2 down the stretch to seal the win.
Lynchburg (10-8, 6-5 ODAC) will look to change its fortunes on the road again Wednesday with a trip to Hollins for a 7 p.m. tip.
