Lexington, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's equestrian team continued its hot start to the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association season with a team victory Sunday at the Washington and Lee IHSA.
The Hornets rode home from the show with 12 ribbons, three of them blues for first place, and 35 team points. Host Washington and Lee was second with 32 points, and Hollins finished third with 30.
Sophomore Alexandria Russell (Limit Fences), freshman Hope Jordan (Novice Flat), and senior Joseph Gatti (Introductory Flat) won the blue ribbons for the Hornets.
Sophomore Margaret Stell and freshman Ava Jackson won second place on Intermediate and Limit Flat, respectively, while junior Iris Moseley was second in Novice Flat.
Senior Lori Ohannessian brought home a pair of ribbons in the top division, taking third on Open Flat and fourth over Open Fences, while freshman Elle Nutting was third on Limit Flat and fifth over Intermediate Fences.
Junior Shannon Huth (third, Intermediate Fences) and freshman Zoey Horn (third, Intermediate Fences) also won the Hornets ribbons.
It was Lynchburg's first road IHSA show victory since February of 2016, when the Hornets were victorious at the Randolph College IHSA that winter. Lynchburg did win its home show last spring as well.
The Hornets will continue the IHSA schedule Saturday, Nov. 5 in Charlottesville at the University of Virginia IHSA, while Lynchburg's top-ranked National Collegiate Equestrian Association squad will look to remain unbeaten this coming Saturday at No. 10 UT Martin.
