Roanoke, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's equestrian team posted a strong performance in Saturday's Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association season-opener at Hollins University, bringing home a pair of blue ribbons. Freshman Zoey Horn and sophomore Hope Jordan won first place in their respective divisions of Limit Fences and Novice Flat.
Lynchburg also turned in a number of ribbon-earning performances. Sophomore Emily Simmons took second in Limit Flat, and senior Joseph Gatti was runner-up in Introductory Flat. Sophomore Alexandria Russell and junior Shannon Huth each brought home a couple of ribbons, Russell third over Limit Fences and fifth in Limit Flat and Huth third on Intermediate Flat and fifth over Intermediate Fences. Sophomore Margaret Stell added a third-place result in Intermediate Flat, and senior Lori Ohannessian was fourth in Open Fences.
Lynchburg's team placed fourth in the standings with 27 points, three five third-place University of Virginia and three ahead of fifth-place James Madison.
The Hornets will continue the IHSA portion of their schedule at home next Saturday, Oct. 15 with the fall season's home show.
