Charlottesville, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's equestrian team took over first place in the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association Zone 4 Region 2 standings Saturday with 33 team points and a share of the team championship at the University of Virginia IHSA show.
The Hornets totaled eight ribbons on the day, highlighted by senior Lori Ohannessian as high-point rider. The Fairfax County product brought home first place in Open Flat and was third over Open Fences Saturday.
Freshman Hope Jordan added another blue ribbon won on Novice Flat, and senior Joseph Gatti took the victory in Introductory Flat.
Junior Shannon Huth and sophomore Margaret Stell both placed in the Intermediate division – Stell fifth on the flat and Huth sixth over fences – and freshmen Zoey Horn (third, Limit Fences) and Elle Nutting (fifth, Limit Flat) won ribbons in the Limit division.
Two Hornets – Stell in Intermediate Flat and Gatti in Introductory Flat – cemented their spots in the regional show at the end of the season with their point accumulations.
Lynchburg, sitting six points ahead of second-place Hollins in the regional standings, will put a wrap on the fall IHSA schedule next Saturday with a trip to the Virginia Tech IHSA.
