Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg baseball senior Grayson Thurman slammed the door in a 4-3 win over Dickinson on Saturday afternoon.
Thurman pitched 2.2 innings with seven strikeouts.
The Hornets hosted the Red Devils for a double-header with the first game scheduled for seven innings. The second game was halted due to impending darkness and was finished on Sunday.
Zack Potts started on the bump for Lynchburg and sat Dickinson down in order in the first. Cameron Lane walked to lead off the bottom half, but Lynchburg went quietly with Lane on first.
Things picked up in the third inning. Dickinson scored three in the top of the frame on two errors and two hits. Holden Fiedler got the rally started in the bottom of the third. Carrson Atkins drove Fielder in with a triple to center. Atkins legged out his first triple since bashing three in his freshman season.
Lane got a free pass after being hit by a pitch, and Gavin Collins walked to load the bases. Avery Neaves earned an RBI without swinging the bat on a bases-loaded walk.
With Lynchburg trailing 3-2 after Neaves' walk, Jackson Harding gave the Hornets the lead with a two-RBI base knock.
Potts started to deal back out on the mound with a 4-3 lead. He struck out two more batters before being lifted for Grayson Thurman with one down in the fifth. Thurman retired both batters he faced in the fifth with Ks. Thurman earned five more strikeouts and tallied a save after seven innings. The senior has 21 strikeouts across 7.2 innings so far in 2022. Thurman's save assured Potts grabbe dhis first win of the season after pitching 4.1 innings of three-hit baseball with four Ks.
