No. 4 baseball takes two from East. Mennonite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Harrisonburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg baseball swept Eastern Mennonite on Saturday afternoon, topping the Royals 16-8 in the opener and 13-6 in the nightcap.

Cameron Lane led of the game with a hit-by-pitch and extended his on-base streak to 20 games. Garrett Jackson wasted no time brining in Lane and cracked a home run. Jackson came up to bat again in the first after Logan Webster hit a grand slam for his first-career homer. Lynchburg scored nine runs in the inning with RBI from Gavin Collins, Ryan Long, and Holden Fiedler as well.

Fiedler drove in another run in the second to extend the No. 4-ranked Hornets' lead to 10-2. Lynchburg gave all that run support to Zack Potts on the mound to set him up for his fifth win of the season. Potts pitched five innings and struck out eight batters.

Jackson got on base again in the sixth starting another rally. With the bases loaded, Collins drove in another run. He ended the day with three RBI. Webster, Jackson, Neaves, and Fiedler all ended the day with multiple RBI. Neaves collected all three of his RBI on a homer in the ninth inning.

Lynchburg slashed 12 hits in the win for the second-straight day as they beat EMU 16-8.

Game 2 nearly started out the same as the first. Eric Hiett walked during his first-career start, and Jackson and Nieves also drew free passes. However, Lynchburg could not get on the board.

Nick Mattfield made the start and went 3 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and two earned runs.

Neaves doubled in his fourth run of the day in the third inning, and Collins cashed him in. However, Mattfield left the game in the fourth trailing 3-2. The Royals pushed two more across that inning on the sophomore's tab to take a 5-2 lead.

Lynchburg loaded the bases again in the sixth but still trailed by three after seven. Jack Bachmore pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless ball to keep the Hornets close, and Grayson Thurman put everyone on #LemurWatch beginning in the sixth. He recorded his first of nine Ks on the day to retire the Royals that inning.

Fiedler led off the eighth with one of Lynchburg's 10 HBP in the double-header.

Josh Gjormand worked a pinch-hit walk, and Carrson Atkins drove in Fiedler with a single to center. Webster tallied his fifth RBI of the day to bring Lynchburg within one.

After Hiett singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Jackson put Lynchburg ahead with a two-RBI base knock.

The Hornets blew the game open in the ninth with seven runs on five hits. Fiedler got the rally going again with an RBI single. Ethan Marotske grabbed an RBI HBP and scored during the next at-bat on another Jackson single. PJ Alvanos also secured 2 RBI. He has 23 on the year.

Thurman struck out the side in the ninth to clinch Lynchburg's seventh conference win, 13-6.

The Hornets cracked 12 hits for the third-straight game and hung double-digits on EMU for the fourth time during their seven-game win streak against the Royals.

Lynchburg (17-4, 7-0 ODAC) visits Hampden-Sydney at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 29.
