Box Score Ashland, Va. -- University of Lynchburg baseball could not mount a comeback on the road against Randolph-Macon Tuesday afternoon.
Three Hornets slashed two hits a piece on the day, but Lynchburg never led and fell 6-4 to the fourth-place Yellow Jackets.
Holden Fiedler, one of the Hornets with a multihit game, scored Avery Neaves with an RBI single in the sixth to draw Lynchburg within one run. The Hornets threatened with the bases loaded later in the inning but could not tie the game up. The Yellow Jackets extended the lead with runs in their next two trips to the plate and knocked Jack Bachmore, Lynchburg's starter, out of the game.
Bachmore came into the game with the second-best ERA in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. He pitched 5.2 innings with six strikeouts.
The Hornets drew within one again in the eighth with an RBI double from Carrson Atkins and an RBI single from Logan Webster on his second hit of the day. Atkins' double was the second of the game for Lynchburg, and it marked the fourth-straight contest with multiple doubles for the Hornets.
Grayson Thurman tallied four strikeouts across 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief work to keep things close.
PJ Alvanos and Riley O'Donovan walked in the ninth inning as the Hornets attemped to rally past Randolph-Macon but came up short for their second ODAC loss of the year.
The Hornets (23-6, 10-2 ODAC) maintained their spot in first place and host Greensboro on Wednesday, Apr. 13 at 3 p.m.
