Bachmore, Neaves shine in No. 6 baseball's win

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg baseball wrapped up its Fox Field schedule win a bang Thursday afternoon and took down Hampden-Sydney 11-2.

Jack Bachmore served up 7 2/3 stellar innings. He held the Tigers hitless through six frames, and Avery Neaves extended his conference lead in home runs with two more dingers.

Neaves hit his first homer of the day during a four-run first inning for No. 6 Lynchburg. Gavin Collins also crushed a two-run home run down the line. The sophomore has three home runs over the last two games.

Bachmore took the run support and ran with it as he sat down 15 batters in a row after the first inning. He struck out two and lowered his ERA to 2.09.

By the time Bachmore was lifted in the seventh inning, Lynchburg led 10-1. Logan Webster drove in a run with an RBI double in the second, Garrett Jackson tallied a sacrifice fly, and Neaves grabbed another RBI on a single. In the sixth inning, Cameron Lane smashed a double off the right field wall to bring home Carrson Atkins then scored on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Neaves hit a towering home run to right field for his ODAC-leading 12th of the season.

Neaves enjoyed his second-straight two-homer game and has reached base every game in 2021-22.

Jackson tallied another RBI in the eighth. The senior is two at-bats away from tying the program record for career at-bats. Jackson, Collins, and PJ Alvanos are all batting .285 on the season.

After the senior from Virginia Beach, Va. gave the Hornets a little more insurance with his ninth double of the year, Grayson Thurman came on in the ninth and closed the game out with two strikeouts.

Lynchburg (31-7, 15-3 ODAC) looks to secure the top seed in the conference tournament on Saturday, Apr. 30 during a double-header with Bridgewater.
