No. 7 baseball stays alive in ODAC tournament

Box Score

High Point, N.C. -- University of Lynchburg baseball eliminated Bridgewater from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament Saturday morning.

Zack Potts delivered seven innings of one-run baseball with four Ks and earned the win for the seventh-ranked and top-seeded Hornets. Grayson Thurman tallied his 13th save, and Avery Neaves led the way offensively with two hits and a run scored.

Neaves, the 2022 ODAC Player of the Year, led off the second inning with a triple. He later scored when Holden Fiedler walked with the bases loaded. Carrson Atkins grabbed an RBI in the next at-bat to put Lynchburg up 2-0. The Hornets extended their lead with runs in two of the next three innings. Garrett Jackson scored twice on RBI from Gavin Collins and PJ Alvanos

Thurman took over with a 4-1 lead in the eighth for Potts who went on to earn his eighth win of the year. Thurman fanned three batters in two innings of work for his 11th multi-inning save of the season and sealed the 4-1 victory.

Lynchburg has won three of the last four in the postseason against the Eagles. The last time the Hornets beat Bridgewater in a neutral-site postseason game was Apr. 29, 2012 to win the ODAC championship.

The Hornets (35-9) take on Roanoke in an elimination game at 6:05 p.m. against Roanoke on Saturday, May 14. Check out the complete postseason schedule here: 2022 ODAC Baseball Tournament Schedule
