Bridgewater, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey team had already clinched the regular season conference title Wednesday, but Lynchburg put the finishing touches on its undefeated conference schedule with a 3-0 win over Bridgewater Friday night.
The Hornets posted their ninth undefeated record in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference since 2010 and first since 2020. With nine ODAC wins, it was Lynchburg's most league victories ever.
The 11th-ranked Hornets did not score in the first quarter despite outshooting the Eagles 4-0. Olivia van Metre put Lynchburg on the board just under two minutes into the second quarter on an assist from Marlou Wendriks. Van Metre scored again a few minutes later this time on a helper from Ryleigh Cameron. With nine points in the first month of the season, it was Cameron's first point since assisting against the Generals on Oct. 7.
Van Metre was not the only player with multiple points in the game. Wendriks notched her fourth game with at least one goal and one assist. She leads the team and the league with 45 points.
Kayla Brady made one save on the only shot that came her way in the third quarter.
Lynchburg (17-2, 9-0 ODAC) skips the first round of the ODAC tournament and will host the winner of the No. 4 and No. 5 game in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 2.
