Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg men's soccer freshman Chris Bovo emerged as the hero Wednesday night netting the equalizer in the 88th minute against Shenandoah.
After a free kick late in the match with Lynchburg trailing 1-0, Trevor Miller poked the ball out to Bovo who unleashed a strike soaring past the Shenandoah keeper. It was Bovo's second-collegiate goal and kept No. 24 undefeated in conference play.
Shenandoah became the first team to score on Lynchburg at home this season. In the 8th minute, Nathan Yared scored from nearly the same spot on the pitch and with a similar-shaped shot as Bovo would 80 minutes later.
Lynchburg earned 12 corner kicks in the match and did not allow a shot to reach sophomore goalkeeper Thomas Viscuso other than the early score from Yared. The Hornets only conceded one shot in total to Shenandoah in the second half as they tried to find a goal of their own.
Leading up to Lynchburg's goal in the 88th, the Hornets sent three shots towards the Shenandoah goal, but all three were off target. Bovo's shot was Lynchburg's 15th and its fourth on-target.
Lynchburg's winning streak was halted at eight by the draw, but the Hornets are still unbeaten since Sept. 2.
Lynchburg (9-1-1, 3-0-1 ODAC) hits Fredericksburg, Va. for a matchup with No. 2 Mary Washington on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m.
