Rustburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team defeated Sewanee 5-1 in National Collegiate Equestrian Association competition Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets finished the flat with two points coming from Fallyn Belcastro and Kelley McCormick. Belcastro scored a 73 on the flat riding Elona. McCormick, who also scored a 73, earned most-outstanding-performer honors. The Hornets and Tigers tied the other two points on the flat.
The Tigers stole one point over fences, but the Hornets responded by taking three points to seal the victory. Emma Schweizer and Jacqueline Needle scored an 83 and a 73, respectively, to earn two points for the Hornets. Fallyn Belcastro, the MOP over fences, scored the highest total over fences with an 85 on Chakira.
The win Saturday wraps up NCEA competition for the fall. The Hornets finished the fall season 2-2 and ranked second among all NCEA single discipline schools.
