Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team lost 83-81 in a back and forth battle versus Pfeiffer Wednesday night.
Deondre Ross led the Lynchburg team with 15 points. Miles Taylor, Alex Fitch and Piercen Young all added double-digits in the scoring column to keep the team close.Â
A jumper by Young in the last seven minutes of the first half gave Lynchburg its largest lead at 27-20. Cameron O'Conner and Fitch kept the Falcons at bay with a combined 10 points, but a late surge from the Falcons had the Hornets down at the half down by three.Â
Pfeiffer started the second half jumping out to a 10-point lead in the first five minutes with Lynchburg only scoring four points. The Falcons dominated inside throughout the game with 44 points in the paint.Â
Lynchburg continued to trail, but a 3-pointer from Ross in the last 14 seconds brought Lynchburg within one. Lynchburg fouled after Ross' 3 with the Falcons in the double-bonus. Pfeiffer missed the front half but converted the second and led by two as Lynchburg prepared for its final possession.Â
Fitch got the final shot off from beyond the arc, and his would-be game-winning 3 bounced off the front iron, and the Hornets fell to 1-1.Â
Fitch did lead the team with a 3-5 (60%) performance from deep. He hit all three of his deep balls in the first half.Â
Jake Hart went 6-6 from the free throw line, came down with seven rebounds, and dished out four assists with three steals.Â
Lynchburg takes on Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 4:30 p.m.
