Lexington, Va. -- University of Lynchburg women's basketball forward Bree Spainhour scored a career-high 19 points in the win over Salisbury Sunday afternoon.
Spainhour shot 9-12 (75%) from the floor as Lynchburg beat the Sea Gulls 74-57. The Hornets shot 50.8% (31-61) from the floor as a team marking their best FG% since shooting .525 (32/61) against Ferrum in December 2021.
Spainhour scored the first four points for the Hornets as they faced an early deficit in the first quarter.
Kacey Kelly made a layup on an assist from Sayre Brandstatter. She was fouled on the play and converted the free throw to tie the game at 10.
Brandstatter set up Sledge for another go-ahead layup a minute later, and the Hornets never trailed again. The Sea Gulls tied the game at 31 late in the second quarter, but Macey Mullins answered right back with her second 3-pointer of the game.
Mullins ended the game with four makes from deep on eight attempts. Brooke Cason and Brandstatter made a pair of 3s as well. Brandstatter ended the night with eight points, seven assists, and 12 rebounds.
The Hornets carried an 11-2 run from the third to the fourth quarter and earned their largest lead of the game on a fast-break layup from Cason at the 7:45 mark of the final period. Spainhour assisted on the play and had six points in the fourth to get her total to 19 as the Hornets held on for the 17-point win.
It was the first-ever meeting between the Hornets and Sea Gulls.
