Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team lost its CODE RED game 60-52 against Roanoke on Wednesday night.
Lynchburg's Macey Mullins started off the game hot with a 3 in the first six seconds of play and two more before the end of the first quarter. Brooke Cason also had two 3-pointers, and Olivia Harris had one to end the first quarter up 20-14.
Cason and Mullins started the second quarter with two more 3-pointers. Sayre Brandstatter also contributed to Lynchburg ending the half with 27 of their 31 points from behind the arc. Lynchburg led by 10 at the end of the first half on 9-16 (56.3%) shooting from deep.
The Maroons came back full force in the third quarter with a 15-5 run putting them ahead by eight. Bree Spainhour and Sammi Sever scored the only points of the quarter.
The fourth quarter started off as a back and forth battle between the teams, but Roanoke stayed ahead. Brandstatter had two layups in the last minute, but Lynchburg could not catch back up to the Maroons.
Mullins led the team with 16 points on 4-12 (33.3%) shooting from deep. Brandstatter contributed 10 points, five rebounds, and five steals.
Lynchburg (3-3, 0-2 ODAC) hits the road next for more ODAC play against Washington and Lee University (6-1) on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.
