Sweet Briar, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team fell to Sweet Briar in National Collegiate Equestrian Association action Friday afternoon.
The No. 1-ranked Hornets tied No. 3-ranked Sweet Briar 5-5, but the Vixens won the raw-score tiebreaker 733-681.
The day started with the flat, and the Hornets wrapped up that portion of the meet up with a 3-2 lead. Lucy Metzler won with a 78, and Kristin Palmer won with a 76. Emma Schweizer scored an 82 on her way to most-outstanding-performer honors.
Lynchburg had a higher raw score over fences than Sweet Briar despite only winning two points from Schweizer and Fallyn Belcastro. However, the Vixens outscored Lynchburg 377-302 on the flat via raw score to seal the victory.
The Hornets (2-2) host Sewanee on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m.
