Indianapolis, Ind. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey team will host a first-round game in the NCAA 2023 Division III field hockey championship announced Sunday night.
The Hornets, coming off their 22nd Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship, will take on Keystone at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
The win Saturday against Shenandoah propelled Lynchburg to its 19th victory of the season marking just the sixth time in program history that the Hornets have reached that benchmark. The win also marked just the second time in program history and the first since 2001 that Lynchburg has completed a perfect regular season in conference play and won the conference tournament in a nine-game league slate.
Lynchburg (19-2, 9-0) won its fourth ODAC championship in the past six seasons and first since the spring of 2021. The Hornets secured the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament where they will make their 23rd all-time appearance.
Keystone won its second conference title and first in the United East. Maria Tomada leads the Giants with 15 goals and 10 assists.
The winner of Wednesday game with travel to Newport News, Va. to take on the winner of St. Mary's (Md.) and York (Pa.) on Saturday, Nov. 11. Christopher Newport, the host for the weekend earned a first-round bye but will also play that Saturday in the Round of 16.
