Lynchburg, Va. -- Lynchburg women's basketball lost the first game of the season against Marymount University Wednesday night 76-44.
Junior guard Olivia Harris led the Hornets in scoring with 10 points followed by Macey Mullins (six points), Kacey Kelly (six), and Sammi Sever (five).Â
Harris put Lynchburg on the scoreboard with a three early in the game. Several turnovers by Lynchburg allowed Marymount to widen the lead 23-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The Hornets had a rocky start to the second quarter with several missed free throws. Despite the early trouble, Lynchburg was able to keep the score close by forcing Marymount to take shots late in the clock. A layup by Harris allowed Lynchburg to keep Marymount's lead under 10 points at the half.
Despite second half offensive efforts by Sayre Brandstater and Sever, the Hornets were unable to contain Chandler Eddleton (28 points) and the Saints. Marymount had a 26-point lead at the end of the third quarter, and the Hornets were unable to overcome the deficit.
Lynchburg (0-1) is back in Turner on Friday, Nov. 10 against Bob Jones University at 6 p.m.
