Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball gets hot from 3 in win over Centre

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team took down the Colonels of Centre College 82-60 in the first of two games during the Wayne Proffitt Classic.

The Hornets scoring efforts were led by Jonathan Foust who put up 16 points. Foust also showed hustle on both ends of the floor adding seven rebounds and two steals.  Cameron O'Conner scored 14 points of his own. O'Conner shot 4-5 (80%) from 3-point range.

From the opening tip, the Hornets dominated and never surrendered the lead. The Hornets moved the ball around to get the best shot possible on most possessions which led to good fortune. The Hornets knocked down 17 3-pointers which is good for the fifth-most in program history. The Hornets also finished the game with 20 assists.

Lynchburg earned its biggest lead of the first half on a 3 from O'Conner assisted by Jake Hart with 1:23 to play. After Centre knocked down a 3 of its own, O'Conner responded with another make from downtown as time expired in the first half.

Lynchburg pushed its lead to 20 for the first time four minutes into the second half when Piercen Young drained a 3. Centre never cut the deficit to single-digits but trailed by 14 with 6:14 to go in the game.

Elijah Davis gave the Hornets their biggest lead late in the game coming off the bench and hitting a shot from straight-away beyond the arc. Eight Hornets in total connected from deep.

Izaiyah Villafuerte led the Colonels in scoring with 10 points. Coleman Hunter added nine points. The Colonels shot 8-23 (35%) from behind the arc.

The Hornets improved to 6-4 on the season and will resume their play in the Wayne Proffitt Classic on Wednesday, Dec. 20 against the Saints of Marymount at 3 p.m.
