Virginia Beach, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team fell 70-55 to Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
Miles Taylor led the team with 16 points as the only Hornet in double-figures. He also paced the team with eight rebounds. Five players for the 21st-ranked Marlins poured in double-digits led by Jordan Crump with 14.
The Hornets held a one-point lead early in the game after Jake Hart made a layup on an assist from Mason Makovec.
With 12:02 left in the first half, Kavon James scored and drew a foul. He converted the free throw, and the Hornets trailed by one. A 17-8 run from the Marlins after James' old-fashioned 3-point play put the Hornets down by 10 with 7:12 to play before halftime.
Lynchburg responded with a 13-2 run to retake the lead by the 2:36 mark. Taylor scored eight points during the run. He and Jordan Parham knocked down 3s during that stretch. However, one more burst from the Marlins left Lynchburg trailing by six at halftime.
The Marlins kept the Hornets at bay throughout the second half after an early 8-0 run. Taylor got the Hornets within seven with six minutes left to play in the game after Alex Fitch pulled down a defensive rebound and found Taylor for the score. Fitch was 2-5 (40%) from 3 in the game. He and Taylor were the only Hornets to make multiple 3s on the day.
Hart and Cameron O'Conner were the top passers for Lynchburg with three assists each.
Lynchburg (4-3, 2-1 ODAC) hosts Ferrum (7-0, 3-0 ODAC) on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.
