Box Score Lynchburg, Va.-- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team fell to the Quakers of Guilford in a tight contest Saturday afternoon 80-78.
Four Hornets scored in double-figures during the loss. Sayre Brandstatter led the charge contributing a career-high 23 points and team-high six assists. Sammi Sever and Olivia Harris both added 15 and 16 points, respectively, while Brooke Cason chipped in with 10.
The Hornets sank 10 three-pointers with three from Harris and four from Sever. The team finished 10-27 (37%) from long range.
Brandstatter's hot hand was evident Saturday, shooting 10-18 (55.8%) from the field and 33% from beyond the arc (1-3) keeping Lynchburg in the game several times.
For the Quakers, Anna Giannopoulou led the team in scoring with 21 points, while Ashtyn Zeigler added 12. The game remained highly competitive throughout, with the Quakers holding the largest lead at 79-69 with only 26 seconds left on the clock.
Fouls proved to be a significant challenge for the Hornets, allowing Guildford College to go 28-35 (80%). Giannopoulou drained 9-11 (81.8%) from the line, and Taylor Dunn went a perfect 6-6 (100%).
In a last-ditch effort, Lynchburg mounted a 9-2 run in the final 26 seconds, but it wasn't enough to secure the win. Macey Mullins had an opportunity for a game-winning three-pointer, but time ran out before the shot could be released.
Lynchburg (4-5, 1-4 ODAC) will regroup for their next challenge on Saturday, Dec. 16, facing Bridgewater (5-3) at home at 2 p.m.
