Sweet Briar, Va. -- The top-ranked University of Lynchburg National Collegiate Equestrian Association team began the spring portion of its schedule Friday with a 6-4 road defeat at the hands of No. 2-ranked Sweet Briar.
The Hornets started the meet off strong, winning three of the five decisions over fences. Emma Schweizer posted Lynchburg's high-point ride in the first half of competition, teaming up with Jules for an 89 that won the sophomore most outstanding performer honors and topped her Vixens opponent by eight points. Fallyn Belcastro (88 on Jetson) and Brynley Smith (84, Kobe) also won points for the Hornets.
Sweet Briar reclaimed high ground on the flat, however. The Vixens won four of the five available points in the second half to claim victory. Lucy Metzler and Kanye picked up the lone Hornets point, scoring 88 to win against her SBC counterpart by 14 points.
The two rivals split their regular-season series, each winning by a 6-4 score at home. Lynchburg (4-3, 3-1 Eastern College Athletic Conference) will return to NCEA action Friday, February 24 at home against Dartmouth.
