Rustburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg's Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team completed its historic season on Saturday with a strong fourth-place finish at home. Lynchburg finished second in the Zone 4 Region 2 standings; the highest-ever team regional finish for the Hornets.
Freshman Hope Jordan became the fifth Hornet to qualify for regionals with her first-place finish in novice flat. Jordan finished her regular season with a flawless record winning every single novice flat class she competed in.
Joining Jordan in qualifying for regionals on Saturday was junior Shannon Huth in Intermediate flat. Huth is now qualified on the flat and over fences.
Sophomore Alexandria Russel became the sixth-Hornet rider to qualify for the regional championship, and she did so in Limit Fences. Russel was third on the day in the fences class.
Senior Joe Gatti also gathered a first-place finish on the day in his Pre-Novice flat class debut.
Freshman Zoey Horn also competed in Limit Fences finishing third. Sophomore Margret Stell, Huth, and senior Lori Ohannessian all garnered fourth place ribbons in their respectives classes. Lilly Dobbs, freshman Elle Nutting, and Ohannessian earned earned place ribbons as well.
Lynchburg will send six riders to the Zone 4 Region 2 finals on March 18, 2023; the most Hornets sent in a single year since the 2012 region finals.
