Equestrian wins ODAC championship!

Rustburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg Equestrian team won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship Friday afternoon!

The 2022 NCEA single-discipline national champions hoisted the ODAC trophy for the first time in program history. 

The Hornets won the conference title with a team score of 18. Sweet Briar and Hollins tied for second with 13 points, and the Vixens were given second place after a tiebreaker of the combined scores over fences. 

Lynchburg won both over fences rounds with a combined score of 255.25 and 252.5. On the flat the Hornets placed third. 

Sophomores Emma Schweizer  and Fallyn Belcastro alongside junior Brynley Smith were named to the All-ODAC team.

Smith put together Lynchburg's highest score over fences in the first round with an 87. Belcastro accumulated an an 86.5 in Round 2. 

Lori Ohannessian and Belcastro competed in a very tough flats session and scored an 82.5 and an 84.5, respectively. 

Ohannessian won the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, and director of Equestrian Phillip Williamson was named the conference's coach of the year.

The Hornets will next host the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship on March 22-25, 2023.
