Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team took two from York (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon.

Graduate student Bradon Pond made his first start on the mound since March 6, 2022. Freshman Brandon Garcia reached base five times in his return from injury.

Pond made his season debut against York 364 days after his previous start where he pitched six innings and earned the win against the very same York College. Pond pitched two innings striking out two and allowing one earned run. 

Senior Wesley Arrington made his first relief appearance this season in the 3rd inning. Arrington struck out five in four innings of work allowing two earned runs.

The No. 13 Hornets got the bats involved in the 4th inning. Graduate student Holden Fiedler brought home junior Gavin Collins with an infield single. 

Lynchburg stunned York in the 7th inning putting up eight runs on six hits. Garcia led the inning off with a walk and was later driven home by a single off the bat of sophomore Logan Webster. Jackson Harding, Carrson Atkins, and Josh Gjormand all had RBI singles in the inning as well.

The Lynchburg bullpen did not allow a run after the 4th inning. Freshman Trever Barnes made his second appearance of the season and earned the win after not allowing a hit and facing the minimum in the 7th. 

Junior pitcher Nick Mattfield made the start in Game 2 for the Hornets. In his third start of the season, Mattfield pitched six innings striking out eight and allowing three earned runs. The junior earned the win and is now 2-0 on the season. 

Webster started the scoring for the Hornets in the 4th inning with a single to left scoring Garcia. Neaves eventually brought home Webster with an opposite-field single. 

In the 5th inning, Lynchburg scored four runs with RBIs from Gjormand, Neaves, and Riley O'Donovan.

Neaves and O'Donovan each recorded an RBI in 7th and made the score 8-3.  The preseason-all-american Neaves led the team with 3 RBI. 

Baylor Cumbea, Ángel Collazo, and Matt Cassidy closed out the game on the mound for the Hornets only allowing one earned run in three innings.
