Box Score Virginia Beach, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team took care of business against Virginia Wesleyan Tuesday.
The seventh-ranked Hornets piled 10 runs on the Marlins in a lopsided conference victory.
Jackson Harding and Brandon Garcia led the way with two RBI each, and Avery Neaves walked three times. Harding drove in the first run of the game with a double in the 1st.
Brandon Pond started for the Hornets and defended an early two-run lead through the first three frames. The Marlins got to Pond for an unearned run in the 4th, but the graduate student fanned five batters over four innings and only allowed one hit.
Logan Tapman took over in the 5th and shut out the home team during his four innings of work. He also only conceded a singular hit.
The Hornets totaled eight runs from the 5th to 8th innings without much power. Lynchburg scored two runs on wild pitches, four runs on singles, one on a Neaves sacrifice fly, and another on a bases-loaded walk.
Ángel Collazo and Baylor Cumbea recorded the final three outs in the 9th with a pair of strikeouts as the Hornets took the season series from Virginia Wesleyan. Lynchburg outscored the Marlins 21-9 over the two conference games, and the Hornets have won sixth-straight games against Virginia Wesleyan dating back to 2019.
The Hornets (23-4, 12-2 ODAC) host Pfeiffer on Wednesday, April 12 at 3:30 p.m.
