Ocala, Fla. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team set off on the 2022-23 season determined to repeat as the National Collegiate Equestrian Association single discipline national champions. After defeating Bridgewater 7-1 on Friday morning, the Hornets are one meet away from accomplishing that goal.
Lynchburg takes on Sweet Briar in the national championship final Saturday, Apri 15 at 9 a.m.
The Hornets earned a spot in the final after sweeping the flat competition and taking three of four points over fences.
Emma Schweizer led the way during the sweep of the flat for the Hornets with a team-high 254 on Lui.
Lucy Metzler scored a 228 on Barnaby, Fallyn Belcastro earned a 227 on Teddy, and Kelley McCormick rounded out the sweep with a 201 on Una.
Belcastro scored the highest over fences with a 250 on Campo.
Schweizer had the biggest differential over her opponent while riding Calisto. Schweizer scored 65 points higher than her Bridgewater opponent with a 222.
Abigail Zemp scored for Lynchburg over fences while riding Cartoon.
Lynchburg is in search of its second-straight NCEA national championship and take on Sweet Briar on Saturday, April 15 at 9 a.m. for the title.
