Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team won its 16th game at home with a victory over Randolph-Macon Wednesday.
Avery Neaves drove home the go-ahead run in the 7th, and Jack Bachmore earned his fourth win of the season by pitching four innings of relief and closing out the 4-3 victory over ninth-ranked Randolph-Macon.
The Yellow Jackets struck first with a 1st-inning homer against Brandon Pond. The righty settled in after the shot to left field and retired the next six batters. He struck out four over 4.1 innings of work but left the game with the game tied 3-3.
The Hornets had gone up 3-1 in the bottom of the 1st on RBI singles from Riley O'Donovan and Jackson Harding and a sacrifice fly from Gavin Collins before Randolph-Macon retook the lead in the 4th.
Jack Bachmore inherited the 3-3 tie in the 6th and was nearly unhittable. He worked out of a base-loaded jam in the 7th after a single and two walks. He stranded the Yellow Jackets with the bases juiced with one of his six Ks on the day.
After Bachmore's escape act, the Hornets took the lead in the bottom of the 7th. Benton Jones singled and got to third on a two-base error from R-MC's catcher. Neaves promptly drove him home with an infield single and tallied his 36th RBI of the season.
Bachmore retired the Yellow Jackets in order over the final two frames, and the seventh-ranked Hornets won and took a lead in the conference standings. They are one game clear of Shenandoah. Lynchburg plays No. 3 Shenandoah in Winchester, Va. on Saturday, April 22.
In the meantime, Lynchburg (27-4, 15-2 ODAC) hosts William Peace on Thursday, April 20 at 3 p.m.
