No. 11 baseball upends East. Mennonite at home

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg baseball pitcher Wesley Arrington took a no-hitter into the 6th inning of Game 2 as the Hornets swept the Royals of Eastern Mennonite Sunday.

Arrington fanned a career-high 11 batters in a 13-1 victory in Game 2, and the 11th-ranked Hornets won Game 1 by a score of 5-3.

Zack Potts started Game 1 and strucknout eight in 6.2 innings of work. The Lynchburg offense provided Potts with four runs to work with over the first two innings as the senior improved upon his undefeated record.

Avery Neaves opened the scoring Sunday after tripling and coming home on a wild pitch in the 1st. Gavin Collins also tripled in the inning driving home Jackson Harding and Benton Jones. Cameron Lane extended Lynchburg's lead in the 2nd with an RBI single.

Jack Bachmore secured his fifth save of the season with four Ks over 2.1 innings of relief work. He ensured Potts' conference-leading seventh win of the season.

Carrson Atkins quietly went 1-4 in the win scoring on Lane's single in the 2nd. However, his lone base knock extended his hitting streak to five games and set the table for a huge Game 2.

Atkins went 3-3 in the second game with four runs and six RBI featuring a grand slam. The speedy center fielder is batting .667 over his six-game hitting streak with 14 hits, four doubles, and three dingers. He has also walked twice and stolen two bags.

Atkins hit his grand slam in the 4th to put Lynchburg up 10-0.

Lynchburg's 10-run lead was more than enough as Arrington was dealing during the top of each inning. The Keswick, Va. native sat down the first eight batters he faced. He allowed one run over seven innings of work.

Travis Shumate relieved Arrington in the 8th. Sam Alheit and Nathaniel Mack combined to close out the 9th.

Eric Hiett and Collins both enjoyed multihit games during Arrington's gem.

Lynchburg (20-3, 9-1 ODAC) hosts N.C. Wesleyan at home on Tuesday, April 4.
