Box Score Farmville, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team took down Hampden-Sydney 11-0 on the road Tuesday afternoon.
Brandon Pond made his 7th start on the mound this season for the Hornets. Pond struck out five in four scoreless innings of work, and has sat down 20 batters in 21 innings this season.
Freshman Benton Jones started the scoring for Lynchburg in the top of the third with a two-RBI single. Eric Hiett drove in a third run this inning with a sacrifice fly bringing home Brandon Garcia.
The Hornets continued their barrage with a five-run 5th. Garcia and Jackson Harding each had RBI singles, and Carrson Atkins drove in two with a double.
Lynchburg scored additional insurance runs in the 6th and 9th innings. Garcia tallied three hits in the contest, and four different Hornets batted in a pair of runs.
Baylor Cumbea relieved Pond in the fifth and pitched two scoreless innings. The grad student's efforts were good for his first career win.
Alex Gianascoli pitched the final three innings of the contest earning his his first career save.
Lynchburg (30-5, 17-3 ODAC) will host Greensboro College tomorrow, April 26, at 3:30 p.m. for their last non-conference matchup of the season.
