Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg women's basketball senior Sammi Sever scored a season-high 22 points in a 79-54 win over Averett on Saturday afternoon.
Sever shot 69.2% (9-13) on the day, and Macey Mullins was right behind Sever in scoring with 14. Sever and Mullins combined to score Lynchburg's first 17 points within the first five minutes. Mullins made a pair of 3s, and it was Mullins' first game in double-digits since Dec. 16 against Bridgewater. Sever reached the 20-point mark for the first time since Dec. 3, 2021.
Sever, Sayre Brandstatter, and Olivia Harris sank 3s in the second quarter as the Hornets held a 15-point lead at the break.
Taylor Brown led Lynchburg in scoring in the second half with seven points, Taylor Gantt made a pair of 3s in the fourth quarter, and the Hornets wrapped up their third-straight win over the Cougars. Lynchburg has won eight of the last 10 matchups with Averett dating back to the 2012-13 season.
Lynchburg shot 10-20 from behind the arc marking the team's second game of the season at 50% from deep. The Hornets also outrebounded the Cougars by 22 and had 17 offensive boards.
The Hornets (9-7, 4-5 ODAC) host Hollins next on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.
