Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team fell to Bridgewater 63-86 on Saturday afternoon.
Jonathan Foust led the Hornets in scoring with nine points. Miles Taylor added eight, and Trey Gillenwater had seven points off the bench.
Bridgewater controlled the game on both ends of the floor since the opening tip. The Eagles began the game with a 7-0 run. A Jayson Easton 3-pointer cut the deficit to one with 12:52 remaining in the first half, but Bridgewater outscored Lynchburg 29-13 for the remainder of the period, giving Bridgewater a 17-point lead at the break. In the first half, Lynchburg shot 10-28 (36%) from the field, 3-13 (23%) from behind the arc, and 2-6 (33%) on free throw attempts.
Lynchburg improved at the charity stripe in the second half, shooting 9-12 (75%). Unfortunately, the Hornets continued to struggle from deep, shooting 3-13 (23%) from 3-point range in the second half. Piercen Young made a 3 with 12:29 left in the second half to cut Bridgewater's lead to 10, but Bridgewater responded once more and outscored Lynchburg 33-23 for the remainder of the game to secure the victory. Lynchburg was outrebounded by Bridgewater 29-43.
Lynchburg (10-8, 5-4 ODAC) will travel to face Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.
