Lexington, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team fell to Washington and Lee in their first outing of the new year.
Jake Hart led the Hornets in scoring with 13 points while shooting 6-9 (67%) from the field. Johnathan Foust contributed nine points off the bench.
Washington and Lee capitalized early on Lynchburg mistakes, including an early foul and turnover from Cameron O'Conner in the first minute of the game. The Generals outscore the Hornets 11-2 in the early minutes of the game. The Hornets would get their first lead of the competition off a layup from Jake Hart with 4:16 left in the first half. The Hornets went into the half leading the Generals 43-41.
In the first minute of the second half, a layup from Deondre Ross and a three pointer from Hart would give Lynchburg their biggest lead of the competition. Shortly after, Lynchburg would struggle shooting from the field, shooting 11-30 (36.7%) from the field and 2-10 (20%) from behind the arc. The Generals shot an even 15-30 (50%) from the field and 5-10 (50%) from three, which would ultimately help them prevail over Lynchburg.
Lynchburg (8-6, 3-2 ODAC) will face the Hornets of Shenandoah on Friday, Jan. 5.
