Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team fell to No. 22 Washington and Lee 75-62 on Wednesday night.
Bree Spainhour poured in a team-high 20 points despite being guarded by one of the best players in Division-III basketball. Mary Schluesner scored 36 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. However, Schluesner was not much of a factor in the first half as the Hornets built their lead.
The Hornets ended the first half on an 11-6 run finished off by a 3-pointer from Brooke Cason and led 32-25.
Out of the break, Lynchburg pushed its lead to double-digits after Sammi Sever hit a 3. Sever was one of three Hornets in double-digits with 13, and Sayre Brandstatter had 11.
The Generals compiled 26 points in the third quarter during a comeback fueled by 15 from Sluesner.
Washington and Lee closed out the Hornets reaching their largest lead at 14 with one minute to play.
Lynchburg (11-9, 6-7 ODAC) travels to Roanoke, Va. for a matchup with Hollins on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m.
