Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The Hornets field hockey team kept their hot streak going with a 2-0 victory over the Roanoke Maroons in their Code Red contest.
The Hornets came out of the gates ready to roll. Controlling the pace of play and dominating time of possession, Lynchburg continued to pepper the Roanoke goaltender. On their second penalty corner of the night,
Aurora Balsamo got Lynchburg on the board with a missile from the edge of the semi-circle.
Coming out of halftime with a 1-0 lead, the Hornets picked up where they left off. Continuing to apply pressure on the doorstep, early in the second half the Mark sisters connected, Lauren assisting to Madison, to expand the Hornet lead to two.
On the defensive end,
Samira Gharavi had a relatively quiet night with a minimal Maroon attack. However, her night was highlighted with a stick save on a penalty stroke late in the contest. Gharavi now has three shutouts in her five starts this season.
Lynchburg will be back in action this Saturday, Oct. 19, to open up the homecoming slate as they host Washington & Lee.
