Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey team scored a season-best nine goals on the way to victory over the Sweet Briar Vixens on Wednesday evening at Shellenberger Field.
The No. 13 Hornets (12-2, 5-0) improved their current win streak to eight consecutive games with today's triumph. The second-best scoring team in the ODAC proved to be such with a whopping 34 shots in the contest, 28 of which were between the pipes. In conference competitions this season, Lynchburg has allowed just two goals while scoring 22, the second largest goal differential in the ODAC.Â
Lynchburg rattled off the first three goals of the affair within the first 12 minutes of action. Freshman

Callie Short each knocked one through to give the Hornets a three-goal advantage by the 11:49-mark. Sweet Briar's Emmi Burdine netted one with 1:45 to go in the first period and the squads ended the first 15 minutes with Lynchburg ahead, 3-1.
The rest of the game was all the Hornets, scoring six unanswered goals to close the contest. Freshman

Olivia van Metre each bagged two, junior
Sydney Rowe notched one and senior
Madison Mark rounded out scoring in the match with the final goal with 8:49 remaining in the outing.Â
Next up, the Hornets hit the road for a matchup against Eastern Mennonite on Saturday, October 26 at 1 p.m.
