Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey team is ready for its second home contest in the last four days when it welcomes Rowan (4-6) to Shellenberger Field on Saturday, October 5 at noon.
The Hornets (6-2) are coming off an imposing 5-0 victory in their first ODAC competition against the Bridgewater Eagles this past Wednesday. This was Lynchburg's largest margin of victory this season,
Grace Peterson leading the way with two goals of her own.Â
As for the Rowan Profs, after starting the season at #10 in the preseason polls, they now find themselves on the outside looking in. Of their 10 contests this season, seven have been against top 25 teams. The Profs' four season wins have come from their three non-ranked matchups along with a 3-2 OT victory over Swarthmore, who has also fallen out of the rankings. Without a signature win on their resume yet this season, the Profs are absolutely in pursuit of their first ranked win of the year.Â
Regardless of Rowan's current record, the team certainly has plenty of firepower offensively. After posting a shut out in her first season start, Samira Gahrahvee will face a Rowan squad that averages 2.6 goals per game this season.Â
This battle has the makings for an offensive showdown, with the Hornets also averaging 2.9 goals per game. The Lynchburg offense has leaned on their young talent thus far, with freshman
Maddie Schuchter and
Jill Pleiter tied for first on the team, and tenth in the ODAC, with 11 points.Â
This will be the seventh meeting between the two schools, with Hornets claiming the most recent victory, 1-0, in 2019 to advance to the NCAA quarterfinal.Â
