Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey squad is set for its regular season finale in a clash of the Hornets when Shenandoah visits Shellenberger Field on Saturday, November 2 at 1 p.m. The matchup will also be the team's senior day, honoring graduating student-athletes
Riley Winefordner,
Olivia van Metre, and
Madison Mark.
The No. 13 Hornets (14-2, 7-0) are set for their fourth contest this season against a team inside the top-25 national rankings. The last meeting against a nationally ranked opponent was versus No. 8 York, where Lynchburg fell 5-0. Following that affair, the Hornets have won 10 consecutive games.Â
The winner of Saturday's outing will earn the title of Old Dominion Athletic Conference regular season champions and gain the opportunity to host throughout the entirety of the conference postseason.Â
Since 2004, Lynchburg owns a 24-3 record in the series against Shenandoah. Last season, the two Hornet squads met twice, once in the regular season and again in the ODAC championship. The Lynchburg squad took both contests with a 2-1 decision. The last win for Shenandoah occurred on Oct. 8, 2022, where SU won 2-1.
The ODAC quarterfinal round will take place on Tuesday, November 5. The Hornets are have already secured a bye past the quarterfinal round and will advance to the semifinals on Thursday, November 4.
