Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg Hornets fell in an overtime thriller against No. 11 Shenandoah, 2-1.
In a rematch of last season's ODAC championship, Lynchburg found themselves in a clash of the Hornets for the regular season finale. Both teams entered with an undefeated conference record, the winner of the top-15 matchup would claim the regular season title and first seed in the ODAC tournament.
Shenandoah jumped out in front in the first quarter after a goal from Camryn DeLeva snuck past Shay Scoones.
In the third quarter, Lynchburg would respond off a penalty corner shot from
Aurora Balsamo to knot the game at one.
The two teams went back and forth for the final 22 minutes, leading to overtime. Neither team budged for the first nine minutes of extra play, but a transition opportunity for Shenandoah led to a goal from Farren Winter to seal the overtime victory.
As a result, Lynchburg heads to the ODAC tournament with the second overall seed and a first-round bye. The Hornets will #3 Bridgewater and #6 Roanoke on Thursday, Nov. 7, on Shellenberger.
