Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey squad is set for a rematch against Shenandoah, this time for the ODAC Championship title, on Saturday, November 9 at 2 p.m.
The No. 13 Hornets return to the conference championship for the eighth consecutive season. These two Hornet squads matched up last year in the championship, which resulted in a 2-1 victory for Lynchburg. The Hornets from the Hill City are looking to repeat history and avenge their loss against Shenandoah in the regular season just one week ago.Â
The aforementioned regular season contest was an overtime thriller. With the score knotted at 1-1 in the extra period, Farren Winter scored the golden goal with less than a minute remaining in the first overtime period to claim the win. Lynchburg hopes to use the loss as extra motivation heading into the second meeting of the year, this time on Shenandoah's home turf.Â
Three freshman lead the Hornets in goals scored this season,
Jill Pleiter (10),
Grace Peterson (9), and
Maddie Schuchter (7). These first year athletes will look to make an impact in their most meaningful game so far this season.Â
Following tomorrow's affair, the field hockey squad will wait for its fate in the NCAA tournament to be revealed during the selection show on Sunday, November 10, starting at 9:30 p.m.
