Women's basketball falls to Guilford on the road

Greensboro, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team was downed by Guilford 90-61 on Saturday afternoon.

Sammi Sever led the way with 12 points and was joined in double-figures by Bree Spainhour and Kacey Kelly

Lynchburg held a 15-10 lead after the first quarter thanks in part to a pair of early 3s from Brooke Cason. Spainhour also scored twice in the opener capping off the first 10 minutes with a layup assisted by Sever.

A 7-0 run from the Hornets to start the second had the Hornets up 22-10. However, the Quakers quickly erased the deficit and put together a 22-4 run to close out the first half and held a six-point lead.

The Quakers kept building upon their offensive success after the halftime break and put up 28 and 30 points in the final two quarters, respectively. Lynchburg didn't have an answer for the offensive prowess of the Quakers despite eight points from Kelly in the second half. It was Kelly's second 10-point game of the season.

The Hornets (12-11, 7-9 ODAC) are in Danville, Va. on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. for their final road matchup of the regular season.
