Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team took down Virginia Wesleyan 74-40 on Senior Day Saturday evening.

Seniors Sammi Sever and Taylor Gantt earned starts alongside graduate student Sayre Brandstatter. Gantt made a pair of free throws, grabbed three rebounds, and came up with a steal in her 15 minutes on the court. It was Gantt's second straight game with 15 minutes of game action which is also her season high. Sever scored 15 and ended the regular season averaging 10.4 points per game. 

However, it was sophomore Bree Spainhour leading the way with 19 points in the blowout victory for the Hornets. She went 9-9 from the floor and completed her flawless afternoon with one make from the free-throw line as well. 

The Hornets made 15 3s in their last win on Wednesday but only made four shots from deep on Saturday. It didn't matter much for the Hornets as they led by 18 at halftime. 

Spainhour got the Hornet lead to 20 right as the third quarter started, and the Hornets hit a 30-point advantage with 5:06 left in the game when Sever made a bucket on a second-chance opportunity. 

Taylor Brown pulled down a rebound and made a bucket on the other end to push the lead to 38, but the Hornets never got to a 40-point lead and ended the day up 34 on the Cougars for their 14th win of the season. 

Lynchburg (14-11, 9-9 ODAC) will host EMU on Tuesday, Feb. 20 in the first round of the ODAC Tournament.
