Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team fell to Randolph 66-65 Wednesday night.
Piercen Young led the Hornets in scoring with 17 points off 5-10 (50%) shooting from the field and 4-6 (67%) from behind the arc. Trey Gillenwater scored 14 off the bench, and Jonathan Foust added 12.
Lynchburg shot an efficient 6-15 (40%) from deep in the first half. A layup from Foust with 14:03 remaining in the first half sparked a 10-0 scoring run by Lynchburg. A three pointer from Jayson Easton with 11:45 remaining in the half gave the Hornets a 10 point lead, their biggest of the contest. Despite the Wildcats taking the lead, baskets down the stretch from Gillenwater, Kavon James, and Cameron O'Conner kept the Hornets within striking distance. Lynchburg entered halftime trailing by three.
Lynchburg trailed for most of the second half. A layup from Gillenwater with 6:39 remaining gave Lynchburg their first lead of the second half. The Hornets led by as many as five points, but ultimately lost to a Randolph 3-pointer with eight seconds remaining.
Lynchburg (10-13, 5-9 ODAC) will host Washington and Lee on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
