Box Score 2 Bridgewater, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team split its Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener with Bridgewater on Sunday afternoon.
Bridgewater walked off the Hornets 7-6 in the 10th inning of Game 1, and the 12th-ranked Hornets won 12-4 in Game 2.
The Hornets were up 3-0 by the second inning of the first contest thanks to a two-run homer from Benton Jones and a sacrifice fly from Sean Pokorak. However, the Eagles erased Lynchburg's early lead in their half of the inning, starting a back-and-forth contest.
The Hornets found themselves trailing in the later innings, but Joe Munitz delivered a game-tying double, knotting the game at 6-6. The Hornets went down in order during their only at-bats in the 10th, and the Eagles handed Lynchburg its first ODAC loss with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th.
The Hornets used a sacrifice of their own to get the scoring started in the first inning of Game 2. Lynchburg never trailed, scoring in six of the nine innings. O'Kelly McWilliams IV and Quinn Madden homered and both compiled three hits in the win. Madden also doubled, while Eric Hiett and Bryce Demory both doubled and drove in two runs of their own.
The Hornets (8-5, 1-1 ODAC) take on Greensboro on Tuesday, March 12 at 2 p.m. on the road.
