Box Score High Point, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team took down Greensboro 12-1 in seven innings on Tuesday afternoon.
Colin McGuire earned his first-career win, Quinn Madden and Gavin Collins homered, and Benton Jones drove in three runs.
McGuire nearly shut down the Pride through his five innings of work allowing one run and four hits while striking out five. Greensboro came into the game averaging nearly 10 runs per game.
Domenic Rowlands entered the game in the sixth for the Hornets and struck out two while allowing only two hits.
The Hornets scored on a pair of sacrifice flies in the first inning. Collins and Madden homered back-to-back in the second, O'Kelly McWilliams IV earned an RBI on a hit-by-pitch, and Jones drove in two to close out the inning. Jones drove in the next run for the Hornets in the fourth, scoring Brandon Garcia. The sophomore shortstop Garcia scored three times in the 12-1 win.
The Hornets scored another run on a bases-loaded HBP, this time courtesy of Riley O'Donovan, Madden drove in two more with a sac fly in the fourth and a double in the sixth, then Ryan Long bookended the game with another sac fly scoring Collins.
The Hornets (9-5) are the 15th-ranked team in Division III and take on Pfeiffer on Wednesday, March 13 at 5 p.m.
