Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg softball team swept Randolph 6-0 and 5-1 on Wednesday.
The Hornets won both games of their matchup with their crosstown rival for the first time since 2021. Lynchburg's sweep was fueled by a complete-game shutout from Kailey Dorcsis in Game 1 and a one-run complete game from Emily Charlton in Game 2. Dorcsis worked her fourth shutout of the season with only one K.
As Dorcsis was dealing in the opener, Lynchburg started its scoring with three in the third. Watts, who later hit her eighth homer of the season in the seventh, doubled home Carly Hudnall for the second run of the day. Watts was 2-4 with two runs and three RBI. Alyssa Talayumptewa and Madison Barnes also notched two hits in the game.
To help Charlton to her sixth win of the season in Game 2, the Hornets put up another crooked number in the third. All five of Lynchburg's five runs came in the top half of the third. Lexi Powell started the scoring with an RBI single. Talayumptewa and Addison Walter each had two-RBI knocks of their own in the frame.
Lynchburg (22-8, 10-4 ODAC) visits Virginia Beach, Va. on Saturday, April 13 for a double-header with No. 12 Virginia Wesleyan.
