Ferrum, Va. – The University of Lynchburg baseball team split a doubleheader with Ferrum on the road Saturday winning game one 14-1 and losing game two 3-4.
In game one, Lynchburg scored seven unanswered runs through the 5th inning. Quinn Madden highlighted the scoring with a two-RBI single in the first driving in Eric Hiett and Benton Jones.
Wesley Arrington made his eighth start of the year on the mound. Through six innings of work, Arrington struck out seven allowing one earned run. The graduate student earned his third win of the year improving his record to 3-1.
Bryce Demory came in to relieve Arrington, pitching two perfect innings and striking out three.
The Hornets scored four insurance runs in the 8th inning capped off by a two-RBI homer from Sean Pokorak. This was the sophomore's third career homer and second of the season. Pokorak recorded three hits, three RBI, and three runs in game one.
Trevor Loving drove in Josh Gjormand in the top of the 9th making the final score 14-1.
In game two, Lynchburg started the scoring with a three-run home run from Quinn Madden. This was the junior transfer's team-leading seventh homer of the season.
Nick Mattfield started for the Hornets in game two allowing two earned runs through six innings of work.
The Panthers scored the go ahead run in the 6th inning to cap off the comeback and held on to take game two 4-3.
Lynchburg (18-9, 8-5 ODAC) is ranked 17th in the d3baseball.com poll and hosts Virginia Wesleyan Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
